Bad Girls Don't Die Review

Title: Bad Girls Don't Die (Bad Girls Don't Die #1)
Author: Katie Alender
Publication Date: April 21, 2009

Format: Hardcover,  352 pages

Summary
Alexis thought she led a typically dysfunctional high school existence: dysfunctional like her parents marriage; her doll-crazy thirteen-year-old sisiter, Kasey;and even her own antisocial anti-cheerleading attitude. When a family argument results in tearful sisterly bonding. Alexis realizes her life is creeping from dysfunctional to dangerous. Kasey is acting stranger than ever: her blue eyes go to green; she uses odd old-fashioned language-and she even loses track of chunks of time, claiming to know nothing of her weird behaviour. Their old house is changing too. Doors open and close by themselves mater boils on an unlit stove, and an unplugged air conditioner turns the house cold enough for the girls to see their breath. Alexis wants to believe it's all in her head, until these seemingly harmless occurrences become life threatening-to her, to her family, and to her budding relationship with the student council vice president. Alexis knows she's the onky person who can stop Kasey; but what if that green eyed girl isn't evn Kasey anymore?

My Thoughts
An awesome book, it was a quick read for me because i just couldn't put it down. Alexis is an awesome character, a girl who doesn't fit in but doesn't care that she doesn't. I love her sarcastic humour she had me smiling the whole time. The book reminded me of when i was a kid and i'd get all caught up in an R.L.Stine novel and stay up all night with my flash light reading......it's a big kid ghost story. It was fun to try and piece the clues together and figure out what was going on. My only complaint is I wish Carter was around more, he was so charming and when him and Alexis were together their banter was a good laugh. I can't wait to read the next in the series. All in all i'm giving this book 4 out of 5.

Haven Review

Title: Haven
Publication Date: February 22, 2011
Published By: Simon Pulse
Format: Hardcover, 416 pages

*purchased by me

Summary
Violet McKenna isn’t a normal girl with normal teenage issues; she has more to contend with than most people could handle. Violet thought she was just crazy when she had a vivid vision of her dad’s murder. Her life started falling apart when her premonition came true. She’s had flashes of other events too–the problem was nobody believed her until she found a new school: Winterhaven.
At Winterhaven, Violet finally feels like she belongs. She quickly finds a close group friends and discovers that they too have psychic ‘gifts’—as do all the students at Winterhaven. But as soon as she feels settled she discovers the most intriguing and alluring boy she has ever met, and things quickly go awry. As the attraction between them grows, intense visions of the boy’s death start to haunt her. In her premonitions, the secret he is unwilling to share begins to reveal itself. And to Violet’s horror, she learns that their destinies are intertwined in a critical–and deadly–way.

My Thoughts
This book has all the elements to be great, a troubled protagonist, a hot boy with dark secrets, and a villain with the plot to destroy. Everything was there and it was a good book, slow at first but gaining steady momentum. But there was just something thats kept from loving it. I think it may be underdeveloped characters. Violet and Aidan, along with Violets friends have a good base to start from but you don't get to know any of them in depth which kept me from really caring what happened to them either way. Everything was there but i was still left.......wanting. Im giving this book 3 stars out of 5.

Wither Review

Title: Wither (Chemical Garden #1)
Publication Date:  March 22, 2011
Published By: Simon and Schuster Children's Books
Format: Hardcover, 358 pages

*Purchased by me

Summary
Thanks to modern science, every human being has become a ticking genetic time bomb—males only live to age twenty-five, and females only live to age twenty. In this bleak landscape, young girls are kidnapped and forced into polygamous marriages to keep the population from dying out. When sixteen-year-old Rhine Ellery is taken by the Gatherers to become a bride, she enters a world of wealth and privilege. Despite her husband Linden's genuine love for her, and a tenuous trust among her sister wives, Rhine has one purpose: to escape—to find her twin brother and go home. But Rhine has more to contend with than losing her freedom. Linden's eccentric father is bent on finding an antidote to the genetic virus that is getting closer to taking his son, even if it means collecting corpses in order to test his experiments. With the help of Gabriel, a servant Rhine is growing dangerously attracted to, Rhine attempts to break free, in the limted time she has left.

My Thoughts
Wither is an all around great read, very entertaining, I couldn't put it down. The world that Lauren DeStefano creates is eerie in it's possibility. Why couldn't our world end up like this with all of it's genetic experiments and devastating wars? I started out rooting for Rhine and praying she gets out of the creepy mansion but as the story progresses you can't help but develop a soft spot for Linden. Not to mention her sister wives, and their doting attendants. By the end of the book i was absolutely torn between her sticking it out in the mansion for the sake of poor Linden and running to freedom with Gabriel, it was heartbreaking. Needless to say i'm anxiously awaiting the sequel! Wither get 4 stars out of 5!

Falling Under Review

Title: Falling Under (Falling Under #1)
Author: Gwen Hayes
Publication Date:  March 1, 2011
Published By: New American Library
Format: Paperback, 324 pages

*purchased by me

Summary
Theia Alderson has always led a sheltered life, not allowed the same freedoms as the rest of the teenagers in the small California town of Serendipity Falls. But when a devastatingly handsome boy appears in the halls of her school, she feels every urge she's ever denied burning through her at the slightest glance from Haden Black. Theia knows she's seen Haden before-not around town, but in her dreams.
Theia doesn't understand how she dreamed of Haden before they ever met, but every night has them joined in a haunting world of eerie fantasy. And as the Haden of both the night and the day beckons her forward one moment and pushes her away the next, the only thing Theia knows for sure is that the incredible pull she feels toward him is stronger than her fear. And as she slowly discovers what Haden truly is, Theia's not sure whether she wants to resist him-even if the cost is her soul.

My Thoughts
I DE-VOURED this book. This book is like a mix between Alice In Wonderland and Romeo and Juliet. It has the scary yet magical upside down world and two star-crossed lovers fighting the odds. The dream sequences were very visual, so easy to imagine. Something i really appreciated in this book is the supporting characters were well developed, they didn't just fill in the gaps of the book they were really a part of it and i became attached to all of them, especially Theia's two best friends Donny and Amelia. It was an amazing read and i am dying for the sequel. It's gonna be a long year. My suggestion GO BUY IT!! This book gets a big 5 stars out of 5.

Unnatural Review

Title: Unnatural (Archangel Academy #1)
Author: Michael Griffo
Publication Date: February 22, 2011
Published By:  Kensington
Format: Paperback, 480 pages

*purchased by me

Summary
For Michael Howard, being plucked from his Nebraska hometown and sent thousands of miles away is as close as he's ever come to a miracle. In Weeping Water, he felt trapped, alone. At Archangel Academy, Michael belongs. And in Cairan, Penry, and especially Cairan's enigmatic brother Ronan, Michael finds friendship deeper than he's ever known.
But Michael's only beginning to understand what makes the academy so special. Ronan is a vampire-part of a hybrid clan who are outcasts even among other vampires. Within the Academy's confines exists a ruthless world of deadly rivalries and shifting allianceas, of clandestine love and forbidden temptations. Soon Michael will confront the destiny that brought him here-and a danger more powerful then he can imagine.

My Thoughts
I wasn't overly impressed by this book.  It had a very slow start, i had to force my self through quite a few chapters before the story started to develop. I didn't relate to any of the characters in particular and none of them were overly memorable. The one cool thing about this book was the different breed of vampire he created, i haven't encountered one like it before and it was a neat twist on the vampires we all know so well. I finished the book so it wasn't so bad i just couldn't continue. My advice is if you want to read it borrow from a friend or your local library. I give this book a 2 out of 5.

Red Riding Hood Review

Saw Red Riding Hood last night and i really liked it. I haven't read the book yet so i can't compare the two. It was definitely a chick flick so if that's not what your into skip it! I love a good love story and that's what it was. The actors were good i especially loved Peter (shiloh fernandez) and amanda seyfried always does a good job. They had me guessing the whole time, everytime i thought i figured out who the wolf was WRONG try again. Overall it was a really cool twist on the classic fairy tale and i would give it 3.5 out of 5.
