Waiting On Wednesday

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking The Spine

Love the cover and love the synopsis, this is gonna be a good one.

Author: Emily Hainsworth
Publication Date: October 2, 2012
Published By: Balzer + Bray

Summary
A romantic sci-fi thriller about love and second chances.

Camden Pike has been grief-stricken since his girlfriend, Viv, died. Viv was the last good thing in his life: helping him rebuild his identity after a career-ending football injury, picking up the pieces when his home life shattered, and healing his pain long after the pain meds wore off. And now, he’d give anything for one more glimpse of her. But when Cam makes a visit to the site of Viv’s deadly car accident, he sees some kind of apparition. And it isn’t Viv.

The apparition’s name is Nina, and she’s not a ghost. She’s a girl from a parallel world, and in this world, Viv is still alive. Cam can’t believe his wildest dreams have come true. All he can focus on is getting his girlfriend back, no matter the cost. But things are different in this other world: Viv and Cam have both made very different choices, things between them have changed in unexpected ways, and Viv isn’t the same girl he remembers. Nina is keeping some dangerous secrets, too, and the window between the worlds is shrinking every day. As Cam comes to terms with who this Viv has become, and the part Nina played in his parallel story, he’s forced to choose—stay with Viv or let her go—before the window closes between them once and for all.

Through To You

Basically the cover is freakin gorgeous, the red just jumps out and screams "you want to read me!!"

Title: Breathless
Author: Cole Gibsen
Publication Date: March 27, 2012
Published By: Crescent Moon Press

Summary
Obituary-reading emo girl Edith Small is broken - the end result of forcing herself inside a mold that doesn't fit. All she wants is to conform to her strict sergeant stepfather's rules long enough to make it to graduation day.

But a boat accident threatens to unravel the life Edith has worked so hard to keep. After waking up in a hospital with a lacerated shoulder, Edith fakes amnesia. Because admitting she received her injuries from a blue-haired girl who breathes underwater is all the reason Sir needs to send Edith on the first bus to military school.

Safe at home, Edith struggles to put the nightmare behind her. But the mysterious creatures that live in the ocean aren't about to let her forget.

After meeting Bastin - a strange boy with silver hair and black eyes - on a secluded dock, Edith learns about the war raging undersea to end human existence. A war that Edith, unwittingly, has become the key to winning.

In a world where death is an ever-present shadow and motives are as dark as the bottom of the ocean, Edith must decide if her life is worth risking for a love that can't survive past the shore.

Follow Friday

Feature & Follow Friday is a weekly hop hosted by Rachel @ Parajunkee and Alison @ Alison Can Read

This weeks question is:
Q: Activity!!! Take a picture or describe where you love to read the most…

I would totally do this but it's winter and I'm currently hibernating. My fav place to read is at the beach where I can soak up two of my fav things, Sun and, books. Other than that I read wherever I can get comfortable. And if the book is really good that could literally be anywhere. I've stood in the middle of my kitchen for 30 mins before because I wasn't willing to take my eyes off the page long enough to figure out which direction I should head in to avoid stubbed toes and a wall flattened face. I will however give you a random beach pic I found on the web, best I can do. In the winter I don't go out unless it 's life or death.

ugh, hurry up summer I'm getting antsy!!

Leave a link to your FF post, and have a wicked weekend =D

Matched Review

Title: Matched (Matched #1)
Author: Ally Condie
Publication Date: November 30, 2010
Published By: Dutton
Format: Hardcover, 366 pages

*Borrowed from library*

Summary
Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

My Thoughts
Matched just didn't do it for me, mostly due to pacing but also my frustration with the absolute lack of free will in the society and Cassia's reluctance to come to terms with that. When I started the book I was really intrigued by the Matching ceremony and the TOTAL control the Society has over it's people. It was hard to fathom living somewhere that absolutely everything is monitored and decided for you. This is what kept me reading.
Cassia bored me a bit at first and then she became outright frustrating. Throughout the book she  slowly realizes that strict rules and regulations the Society enforce may not be the right way to live, yet she consistently makes excuses for them. Though she does finally make a the right choice the amount of time it took her to get there was annoying.
Ky, I loved. He learned the best way to stay off the radar and he followed through. When his feelings toward Cassia ruined that he didn't agonize over it the way she did. He made his choice and stuck to it, never second guessing himself. Plus, how can you not love a guy who's been through as much as he has and not turned into a bitter bastard.
The pace killed me it was without a doubt the low point, this book could probably be cut down 50 pages and still tell the same story. Some parts were so slow I'd read a page, set the book down for an hour and try again.  The romance was the high point. It was so sweet and tender, Ky and Cassia's stolen moments made my heart swell like crazy. These were the parts of the book that had a poetic beauty to them, the way Cassia describes how Ky makes her feel totally made me melt.
Matched had it's ups and downs, some may love it, some may hate it, I just like it. 3 out of 5.

Follow Friday

Feature & Follow Friday is hosted by Rachel @ Parajunkee and Alison @ Alison Can Read

This weeks question is:

Q: BeefcakeandBabes Asks: I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What’s the most unique character name you’ve come across?

I just finished Immortal Darkness by Cate Tiernan (which was awesome) and her leads name is Nastasya, but her friends call her Nasty...need I say more? As for original and cool, the protag in Daughter of Smoke and Bone's name is Karou, which I thought was a pretty cool name.  That's about it, with all the books I read I'm finding it hard to remember names lol.

Leave a link to your post and I'll be sure to follow back =D

Brightest Kind of Darkness Review

Author: P.T. Michelle
Publication Date: June 27, 2011
Published By: Self Published
Format: Kindle

*I purchased this book*

Summary
Nara Collins is an average sixteen-year-old, with one exception: every night she dreams the events of the following day. Due to an incident in her past, Nara avoids using her special gift to change fate…until she dreams a future she can’t ignore.

After Nara prevents a bombing at Blue Ridge High, her ability to see the future starts to fade, while people at school are suddenly being injured at an unusually high rate.

Grappling with her diminishing powers and the need to prevent another disaster, Nara meets Ethan Harris, a mysterious loner who seems to understand her better than anyone. Ethan and Nara forge an irresistible connection, but as their relationship heats up, so do her questions about his dark past.

My Thoughts
If you're a YA PNR lover but your bored with the mediocrity of the genre's recent additions this will restore your faith. Brightest Kind of darkness is a well crafted paranormal romance with a refreshing and original plot, I couldn't get enough.
Throughout the book there is a deep sense of mystery and otherworldliness, there were parts of the book that gave me chills and it wasn't from something in your face scary, just wrong.  The story unraveled at a steady pace, with new surprises and developments around every corner. I kept thinking I had all the info but more crazy would happen. Ethan and Nara kept their wits about them pretty well considering, I'd have run screaming for the hills.
Nara has a lot of beleivability to her character, she is very "teen". A lot of times you get 30 year old mind in a 16 year olds body. It was great to  see the value Nara puts on her family and her ties to them. She has a close relationship with her Aunt and actively tries to strengthen the bond with her mom through the entire story. No parents getting axed in the first chapter. Ethan is absolutely drool-worthy. He seems the typical tall, dark and broody boy with a shady past and  I was pleasantly surprised by his sensitive streak,. He's very supportive of Nara and encourages her to take control of her life.
I was consumed by this book and hungry for more, I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment Lucid. 5 out of 5.

Mira Johns is pretty much like any other teenage girl. Except that she knows how to harness electro-magnetic energy to communicate without words. And she's really, really far from home. Her assignment as an emissary to Earth sounds fairly simple: blend in, observe, and stay away from the planet’s primitive males. But after she finds one mysterious boy too irresistible for stupid rules, she realizes the real reason she's supposed to keep her distance: mates from her world can die if separated. But a series of serious accidents make it clear that someone wants to force her return. Mira decides her only hope is to uncover the truth to why she, the most mediocre of candidates, was actually chosen for this assignment—before the agency discovers her secret and sends her back home.

Filled with mystery, romance, and the supernatural, The Raven Boysintroduces readers to Richard “Dick” Campbell Gansey, III and Blue Sargent. Gansey has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on the hunt to find Glendower, a vanished Welsh king. Legend has it that the first person to find him will be granted a wish—either by seeing him open his eyes, or by cutting out his heart.

Blue Sargent, the daughter of the town psychic in Henrietta, Virginia, has been told for as long as she can remember that if she ever kisses her true love, he will die. But she is too practical to believe in things like true love. Her policy is to stay away from the rich boys at the prestigious Aglionby Academy. The boys there—known as Raven Boys—can only mean trouble. When Gansey and his Raven Boy friends come into her life, Blue realizes how true this is. She never thought her fortune would be a problem. But she was wrong.
